Overview
- The Julii Cory (Corydoras julii, now sometimes placed in Hoplisoma) is a small catfish with a fine leopard-spot pattern.
- Native to coastal rivers south of the Amazon delta in northeastern Brazil.
- Grows to about 2.2 in (5.5 cm) standard length.
- Many fish sold as julii are actually the look-alike three-lined cory (C. trilineatus).
Feeding
- A foraging omnivore. Feed sinking dried foods plus small live and frozen foods such as bloodworm.
- Don’t rely on it to live on leftovers.
Habitat
- A tank with a base of 36 × 12 in (90 × 30 cm).
- Fine sand is ideal. Smooth gravel is OK if kept very clean.
- Water: 68–79°F (20–26°C), pH 5.5–7.5, GH 2–12.
Fish Care
- Keep the substrate clean to protect its barbels.
Compatibility
- Peaceful. Good with most small community fish.
Aquarium Behavior
- Sociable. Keep at least 4–6.
Breeding
- Use two or more males per female.
- When females are full of eggs, do a large (50–70%) water change with cooler water and boost flow and oxygen. Repeat daily until they spawn.
- Eggs are usually stuck to the glass or plants.
