Overview

  • The Platinum Guppy is a metallic white strain of the common guppy (Poecilia reticulata).
  • Wild guppies come from northeastern South America and the southern Caribbean, including Venezuela, the Guianas and Trinidad.
  • Females grow to about 2.4 in (6 cm). Males are smaller. [UNVERIFIED]
  • Like other fancy guppies, this strain is purely captive-bred.

Feeding

  • Tank-bred guppies accept most foods.
  • [UNVERIFIED] Feed small portions of flakes plus small live or frozen foods.

Habitat

  • A tank with a base of 18 × 12 in (45 × 30 cm).
  • Planted, with floating plants. Avoid strong currents.
  • Hard water: 63–82°F (17–28°C), pH 7.0–8.5, GH 8–30.

Fish Care

  • A hard-water fish. Soft, acidic water causes problems long term.

Compatibility

  • Very peaceful.
  • Keep away from fin nippers such as tiger barbs and serpae tetras.
  • Good with other livebearers, rasboras, Corydoras, small plecos and tetras.

Aquarium Behavior

  • Males constantly chase females, so keep several females per male.

Breeding

  • Very easy. A livebearer.
  • A densely planted species tank with floating plants helps more fry survive.
