Overview

  • The Sterbai Cory (Corydoras sterbai, also placed in Hoplisoma) is a spotted catfish with orange pectoral fins.
  • Native to the Rio Guaporé area of Bolivia and Brazil.
  • Grows to about 2.6 in (6.5 cm) standard length.
  • Almost all fish sold are commercially bred.

Feeding

  • Omnivorous. Quality sinking pellets or tablets as the staple, plus Daphnia, brine shrimp and bloodworm.

Habitat

  • A tank with a base of 18 × 12 in (45 × 30 cm).
  • River sand, driftwood and leaf litter.
  • Warmer than many cories: 75–82°F (24–28°C), pH 6.0–7.6, GH 1–15.

Fish Care

  • Tolerates warmth, so it is a good match for discus and rams. [UNVERIFIED]

Compatibility

  • Very peaceful. Good with small characins, cyprinids, gouramis and dwarf cichlids.

Aquarium Behavior

  • More confident in a group. [UNVERIFIED] Keep at least 6.

Breeding

  • One of the easiest cories to spawn.
  • Use an 18 × 12 × 12 in (45 × 30 × 30 cm) breeding tank with a sponge filter and some plants.
  • Use two or more males per female. A cool water change often triggers spawning.
